ISLAMABAD:Former Afghan spymaster Amrullah Saleh accused Pakistan on Tuesday of taking money from Afghanistan for the recent release of Taliban cadres.

In the programme “Sarhad Ke Us Paar”, the former head of National Directorate of Security (NDS) claimed that the Pakistani government had even offered to mediate between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
“Pakistan is no longer denying to having harboured the Taliban leadership, and its government is now putting a high price tag on the Taliban and saying if you pay the price we are going to push these guys for reconciliation and we know what the price tag is,” said Saleh, who is known for his anti-Pakistan statements.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry rejected Saleh’s claims outright, saying neither did the government take money from Afghanistan for releasing the prisoners, nor did they offer any mediation.

“Pakistan encourages an inclusive intra-Afghan dialogue and is committed to it,” the foreign ministry spokesperson told.

“Pakistan has monopolised the right to have all sorts of foreign relations itself and when it comes to Afghanistan, they want to create limitations for us; treating us not as a nation, but as sub-nation, as to who we should talk to or who should be our allies,” he added. During the programme, Awami National Party Senator Haji Adeel conceded that Pakistan has made mistakes in the past when “undemocratic people ruled the country”.

“We treated Afghanistan as another province, I think now the policy has changed. Even our establishment, our agencies and our elected government are now following their own tradition.”

2 hand grenades hurdled at Pakistan Air Force base in Karachi

KARACHI: Unidentified armed pillion riders hurled two hand grenades at Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Base Faisal situated along main Shahra-e-Faisal within the precincts of Shahra-e-Faisal police station here on Tuesday evening. According to an ISPR statement, unidentified miscreants hurled two crackers / hand grenades in front of the Shahra-e-Faisal Air Base flyover at about 7.15 pm. A bicyclist was also injured in the attack at the end of the flyover. He was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The statement added that security agencies were in full control of the situation and carried out thorough investigation into the incident through all available means, including CCTV footage. The security at all PAF Air bases was already on high. The injured was later identified as 24-year-old Izhar, son of Ghulam Haider, resident of Akhtar colony. He was returning home after teaching his students. SHO Tariq Raheem that some unidentified pillion riders hurled the hand grenades at the Faisal flyover gate of the PAF base and fled.

As a result, one of them fell outside the gate, while other fell in the base. Both hand grenades exploded with big bang, which caused panic and uncertainty in the vicinity. Following the attack, heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene to evaluate the damage. Rangers, police and PAF personnel cordoned off the area and beefed up the security at the entrances and exits of the base. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) experts also rushed to the scene to determine the nature of hand grenades and took all the evidences from the scene.

Pakistani censors and cinema owners do not like films that depict characters who work for the country's Inter Services Intelligence Agency (ISI), whatever their work might be.
Only last year the censors banned two Indian blockbusters for this reason.
Ek Tha Tiger was banned because an Indian intelligence operative falls in love with a cute ISI mole.
Another thriller, Agent Vinod, was banned because an Indian super-spy takes on and triumphs over some powerful ISI agents.

The ban resulted in large numbers rushing to their neighbourhood DVD shop, buying a pirated copy and watching it.
They then shook their heads and said: "Look at these Indians, always running down our intelligence agencies."

'Caught napping'

 But at weddings across the land, people continued to dance to music from the same banned movies.

Although Zero Dark Thirty shows no ISI agents, good or bad, on screen, film distributors in Pakistan did not try to test the censors. They voluntarily decided not to distribute the movie.
The reason: it depicted someone who caused enormous embarrassment to Pakistan's intelligence agencies.

Osama Bin Laden lived near Pakistan's military academy, apparently without any of our intelligence agencies knowing about it.
And when American Seals flew in to capture and kill him in the middle of the night Pakistan's powerful army was caught napping. An American raid was carried out in the heart of Pakistan and we had no clue. Hence the film is considered an insult to our innocence.
The net result of this voluntary ban is that everyone has gone ahead and bought a 50 rupees (50 cents; 30p) DVD, and is now busy deconstructing it.

Pakistan to release Mullah Baradar, other Afghan Taliban detainees

ABU DHABI: Pakistan plans to release all Afghan Taliban prisoners still in its detention, including the group’s former second-in-command Mullah Baradar, Pakistan’s foreign secretary Jalil Jilani said on Friday, the clearest signal yet that it backs reconciliation efforts.
“The remaining detainees, we are coordinating, and they will be released subsequently,” Jilani said at a news conference in Abu Dhabi.

Asked if the former Taliban number 2 Baradar would be among those to be released, he said: “The aim is to release all,” without elaborating further.
Pakistan, in a bid to support peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan and answering requests of the Afghan government and the high peace council, agreed to release a number of high profile Taliban detainees in November 2012.
Pakistan released around 26 Taliban leaders since then.
