The pilot (left second) who parachuted from the J-7 fighter, was walking with PLA Air Force people after the accident |
A J-7 fighter jet crashed this morning in downtown Shantou, a city in Guangdong Province, setting a house on fire and injuring four people inside.
The air crash happened around 9am. The pilot parachuted to safety but his aircraft fell on a house in the city's Jinping District, setting off a big explosion.
Three poeple were slightly injured and another was seriously injured. The injured were sent to a hospital for fire injuries. The local fire brigade confirmed that crashed aircraft was a J-7 jet fighter, not a helicopter as CCTV news originally reported.
J-7 fighter Jet is one of the major fighters catering to People’s Liberation Army’s Air Force and Chinese Navy’s Air Force.
Though the production of J-7 ceased in 2006, it still remains an important position in China’s air force equipage for its high performance, flexibility, and low cost.
